Expanded Facebook Posting Capabilities

Requesting support for the following capabilities in the Facebook posting API:

  1. Location Tagging
    • Ability to attach a location to a post
    • Enables geo-based discoverability and aligns with Facebook’s recommended best practices

  2. Feeling/Activity Tagging
    • Ability to add feelings or activities to posts
    • Improves post visibility and metadata richness

  3. Facebook Group Posting
    • Ability to publish posts directly to Facebook Groups where the user has permission
    • Extends use cases for communities, brands, and engagement-focused pages

These features are not currently available in the API but are essential for maximizing content reach, discoverability, and alignment with Facebook’s own platform guidelines.

Splitting these three, because they are not the same kind of blocker. Facebook Groups publishing is permanently gone: Meta removed the Groups API endpoints and the publish_to_groups permission from all API versions on 22 April 2024, so no scheduling tool can publish into a Group any more, and that will not come back unless Meta ships a new Groups publishing API.

Location tagging and feeling/activity tagging are different: both still exist on the Page /feed publishing API (place for a location, og_action_type_id and og_object_id for feelings and activities), so those are work on our side rather than a platform wall, and we are leaving this open for them. The catch on location is discovery, not publishing: place takes the Page ID of a place, and searching places at scale needs Meta's Page Public Content Access feature, which is an App Review we have not gone through (we verified this on 2026-06-15 when we looked at the same question for Instagram).

The nearest thing available today is geoRestriction on platformSpecificData, which limits which countries can see a Page post. That is visibility control, not a location tag, so it does not give you the restaurant's suburb showing on the post.

Location posting on Instagram and Facebook is needed. I manage accounts for restaurants and not being able to tag their location or street or suburb is not ideal.
