Super easy to implement with Meta’s Threads Location Search API! Please do it as it requires special permissions that Zernio likely already has.

Partial update: Instagram location tagging shipped today. You can pass instagram.locationId on post creation and it reaches Meta as location_id, on feed posts, Reels and the carousel as a whole. Stories and individual carousel slides do not accept it.

The lookup has not changed. locationId is still the Facebook Page id of the place, and Pages Search is still behind Page Public Content Access, so you supply the id yourself. You can read it off the Page in Facebook, from its About section or its URL. That is why this request stays open: tagging works now, finding a place by name does not.

On the concern I raised in August about shipping half of it, a wrong Page id does not publish a stripped post. Meta rejects the container with INSTAGRAM_PLATFORM_API__INVALID_LOCATION_ID and we surface that as a failed post saying the Page has no location data or does not exist, so a bad id is loud rather than silent.

Facebook place tagging is still not shipped. That half is tracked on "Expanded Facebook Posting Capabilities".

We are not shipping location tagging yet, and the blocker sits on Meta's side rather than ours. Instagram's publish API does accept a location_id, but that id has to be the Facebook Page id of the place, and the only way to look one up is the Facebook Pages Search API, which Meta gates behind the App Review feature Page Public Content Access (the old GET /search?type=place was removed on 2 November 2020). We traced this end to end in June 2026, and Facebook's own place tag on /feed sits behind the same review, so shipping half of it would silently publish posts with the tag stripped. That makes this an App Review project we can take on rather than a dead end, so we are leaving the request open. In the meantime the nearest things that do work are @mentioning the venue's account in the caption (Instagram auto-links those) and, for Google Business Profile, posting to a specific location with locationId.

Yes please! I mange restaurants and being able to add the location in reels/carousels is vital.
